“Whole criminal justice system is corrupt,” Texans rookie C.J. Stroud advocates for prison reform amidst his dad’s incarceration following his record-breaking day

On Sunday, the Houston Texans‘ rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud had the best performance of his short career so far, when he led his team to a comeback victory, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their week 9 matchup. He broke Andrew Luck‘s record for most passing yards in a single game by a rookie QB.

But, when the Texans QB took the podium on Sunday, his record-breaking day wasn’t the only thing on his mind. He used the opportunity to advocate for prison reform in the United States amidst his dad’s incarceration. Stroud’s dad is currently serving a 38-year-long sentence in Folsom State Prison.

He hopes one day, his father could get to NRG Stadium to watch him play for the Texans. Besides, the rookie QB talked about the corruption going on in the criminal justice system.

Our criminal justice system isn’t right, and it’s something that I need to probably be a little more vocal about, because what he’s going through is not right. He called me this week, and we got to talk, and I’m praying for the situation and a reform, and the people with reform are helping me a little bit.

Stroud told reporters on Sunday.

Furthermore, the Texans star also noted that he is not only talking about his dad’s situation in person, but he is talking about how the entire criminal justice system is corrupt.

I think just letting it be known that it’s not just my dad’s situation, but the whole criminal justice system is corrupt.

Stroud’s father Coleridge Bernard Stroud III is currently serving a very long prison sentence after pleading guilty to carjacking, kidnapping, and robbery charges back in 2016. He has been in prison since Stroud was in middle school.

C.J. Stroud upset about the poor conditions of prisons

After talking about the US criminal justice system, the 2023 second-overall pick, C.J. Stroud, expressed his concerns about the poor conditions of prisons in some places of the country.

Some of the prisons there have rats, roaches, and things like that. . . Don’t get me wrong — criminals, they should do their time, but they’re still humans, know what I mean? I just want to shine a light on that really quick.

Stroud has been very open about his opinion against the criminal justice system. Earlier this year, he attended an event on prison reform, which had many celebrity guests including Kim Kardashian and the Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young.

On the sporting side of things, Stroud had a remarkable outing against the Bucs as he threw for 470 yards and 5 touchdowns in the game. He also led a game-winning drive in 40 seconds and secured a victory for the Houston-based football team. Next, Stroud and the Texans will look to cause an upset by defeating the Cincinnati Bengals, who they are scheduled to face in their week 10 matchup on Sunday.
