Donald Trump’s second presidency will likely mean a new U.S. attorney for Oregon but otherwise presidents typically have a muted impact on a state’s criminal justice system, though some observers point to Trump’s past targeting of Portland’s protest culture as a sign he may be more attuned to what’s happening in Oregon than other administrations.
Tung Yin, a Lewis & Clark Law School professor, said it’s customary for U.S. attorneys to offer their resignation when there’s a change in party under a new presidential administration.
