{KXLG – Watertown, SD} Colton Jon Vig, 18, of Watertown, received a suspended sentence on two charges from incidents earlier this year, including aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault.
According to court documents, Vig pleaded guilty to Reckless Use of a Weapon and Simple Assault on May 22, 2024. The Reckless Use of a Weapon charges stemmed from two incidents, one on October 23, 2023, and another on May 22, 2024. Vig received a suspended $250 fine for both charges and was ordered to pay $96.50 in court costs.
Court documents also show that two more severe charges, Aggravated Kidnapping and Aggravated Assault, were dismissed on May 20, 2024. The documents state that the Aggravated Kidnapping charge was dismissed due to a motion by Vig’s defense, while the Aggravated Assault charge was reduced from a more severe offense. No plea was entered for the reduced Aggravated Assault charge.
Another Aggravated Assault charge from October 23, 2023, was also dismissed. Court documents do not specify the reason for this dismissal.
As part of the plea agreement, Vig will not serve any jail time but will be required to follow probationary conditions for one year, including repaying the cost of his court-appointed attorney.
