Vande Bharat Express launch LIVE: PM to flag off 9 new Vande Bharat trains today

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said, “MotoGP is one of the most competitive sports in the world and there are millions of fan followers. With a successful event happening and concluding in India, it clearly shows what UP has done, and what India has done. And I’m sure in the coming years, we’re going to see more MotoGP events.”

He added: “India is the third largest automobile manufacturer and the largest bike manufacturer in the world, and I’m sure this kind of event will further help to create more ecosystem for the upcoming bikers. They will also understand how to race. And in the coming years, in the next 5-10 years, we’ll also see a few Indian bikers who can participate in this kind of race…”

Addressing the concluding session of the International Lawyers’ Conference in New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke about the three new criminal laws and explained their relevance in today’s time.

He, however, urged the lawyers to read the three new criminal laws and give their suggestions as the “Government believes that no law is complete if it is passed without stakeholder consultation”.

Addressing the concluding session of the International Lawyers’ Conference in New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke about the three new criminal laws and explained that they were introduced to make the laws relevant with a vision of the future.

He said: “The three new criminal laws will bring down the delay and pendency in criminal justice system drastically. They will also get rid of all the colonial influence. The old criminal laws were made to protect the colonial masters, the new laws have been made to protect the rights of the citizens of India.”

Shah added: “The existing criminal laws make it difficult for poor to access justice, conviction rate was also low. As a result of this the prisons are over-crowded with under trials. The intention of the old criminal laws was punishment, not justice. The intention of the new laws is justice not punishment.”

To explain how over the last nine years the government has endeavoured to update itself with the need of the hour, Union Home Minister Amit Shah cited the examples of amendments made to the Arbitration Law, introducing the Mediation Law and the Jan Vishwas Bill.

He said the “Jan Vishwas Bill has brought ‘Vishwas’”, while changes to the Insolvency Code and GST are being made time and time again to iron out operational issues among others.

Shah explained, “No law is final even after it is passed and implemented; it has to be changed time and again after its implementation based on its relevancy.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said: “The international lawyers’ conference has been organised at an appropriate time. This is the year the Indian parliament has decided the reconsider the Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, and Indian Evidence Act.”

“This is also the year when both the Houses passed the Women’s Reservation Bill. The conference is very relevant, in the last 9 years India has made itself relevant. India has become the 5th largest economy now, the judiciary catching up with all these changes,” he added.

“Don’t know why Congress tabled it (Women’s Reservation Bill) in the Rajya Sabha first (in 2009). After the Bill was passed (in Rajya Sabha), it was tabled in Lok Sabha. However, the Congress dropped the Bill to save its government,” says Union Minister of State for Law & Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal at a press conference.
