The United States Bureau of Prisons will investigate a viral video showing a birthday feast inside the detention facility at Fort Dix, New Jersey where Nigerian convict Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi, is serving an 11-year sentence for fraud.
The video, which appeared to show Abbas and others eating different foods like jollof rice, pasta and soda drinks, surfaced on January 22nd – the birthday of Abbas’ associate and social media influencer Tunde Adekunle, known as Tunde Ednut.
While fans and celebrities joined in celebrating Ednut’s birthday in Nigeria and parts of the U.S., the video from inside the prison raised questions.
A spokesperson for the Fort Dix facility told the media outlet Peoples Gazette that they “take these matters seriously” and their “investigative department” will look into the video to determine the accuracy of the scene shown.
It will determine whether any rules were broken regarding Hushpuppi having a celebratory feast inside the detention center while incarcerated.
Hushpuppi is currently serving his sentence at the New Jersey prison for his role in multi-million dollar fraud schemes.
