Tulsa man sentenced to 13 years in prison, 5 years supervised released in deadly 2020 shooting

TULSA, Okla. — A Tulsa man was sentenced to 13 years in prison and 5 years of supervised released for a deadly 2020 shooting 2020, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma.

27-year-old Daijon Marque Welch was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment and 5 years of supervised release for second degree murder in Indian Country.

According to court documents, on April 22, 2020, Tulsa Police responded to a shooting call near 31st and Memorial. Witnesses said they heard several gunshots and saw Welch fleeing the area. One victim was shot in the face, forearm and abdomen. The second victim, Cameron Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene. Police canvased the area and found Welch, along with a semi-automatic pistol he attempted to hide.

Welch plead guilty to intentionally shooting Wilson several times, according to court documents.

“This deadly act of violence at the hands of Daijon Welch changed the family of Cameron Wilson forever and seriously injured another man,” said U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. “My office will continue to pursue violent crime whether in Tulsa or in rural Oklahoma. There are no higher priorities than keeping our communities safe and fighting for victims of violent crime.”

Welch is a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and will remain in custody until he is transferred to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.

This case was investigated by the FBI and Tulsa Police Department.
