TULSA, Okla. — A Tulsa gang member was sentenced to more than 17 years in prison for a deadly shooting that took place in early 2022, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma.
20-year-old Sir Michael Morgan Jr. was sentenced to 210 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for second degree murder in Indian Country.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said according to court documents, on Jan. 29, 2022, Morgan believed 18-year-old Isaiah Jones, who was in a rival gang, shot his friend. A confrontation led to Morgan shooting at Jones and Jones returning fire. Morgan had four gunshot wounds.
In January 2023, Morgan pleaded guilty to intentionally shooting and killing Jones.
“Gang rivalry and gun violence resulted in the senseless death of Isaiah Jones,” said U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. “Today’s sentence reflects this defendant’s callous disregard for life and reaffirms that prosecutors and law enforcement will hold violent criminals accountable for their actions.”
Morgan is a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. He will remain in custody until he is transferred to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.
This case was investigated by the Tulsa Police Department and the FBI.
