CLEVELAND, Ohio — A reliable lineup of allies to Donald Trump took to social media to defend the former president after an indictment was issued Tuesday accusing Trump of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Trump was indicted on felony charges by the U.S. Justice Department. The four-count indictment is the third criminal case against Trump and chronicles a months-long campaign of lies about the election results and says that, even when those falsehoods resulted in a chaotic insurrection at the Capitol, Trump sought to exploit the violence by pointing to it as a reason to further delay the counting of votes that sealed his defeat.
U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, the Ohio Republican who is leading a “weaponization” committee investigating federal law-enforcement agencies, had a short response on X (formerly Twitter): “When you drain The Swamp, The Swamp fights back. President Trump did nothing wrong!”
He later followed with several posts about President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, reiterating GOP allegations of their business dealings abroad.

Trump has now been indicted in a third case. Here’s where all the investigations stand
Republican U.S. Rep. Max Miller, a former aide to Donald Trump, writes on X: “Let’s be clear. President Trump’s momentum is growing. President Biden’s approval is falling. America knows the truth. We know the outcome. We will make America Great Again. Again.”
Bernie Moreno, the Northeast Ohio businessman running for U.S. Senate, also responded on X by attacking the Bidens.
“I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that they’re indicting Trump with bogus charges the day after Devon Archer gave his testimony about the corruption of the Biden family,” Moreno writes. “Cleaning house at the DOJ to make our Justice System fair again will be one of my top priorities in the Senate.”
U.S. Rep Bill Johnson did not respond directly but instead resent a post by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy which again focused on allegations against the Bidens.
Republican U.S. Sen. JD Vance, a vocal supporter of Trump, and Democratic U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown did not respond on social media Tuesday. No Ohio representatives responded on social media.
