How Many Federal Prisons are in the US?

The US has over 120 federal prisons throughout the country, and 18 of those are in Texas.  Unfortunately, Texas is home to one of the most dangerous federal prisons in the US.

What Texas Federal Prison is one of the Worst in the Country?

USP Beaumont is one of the worst federal prisons in the United States.  It is located in Beaumont, Texas.  The facility houses 1,370 male inmates.

Why is USP Beaumont Considered One of the Worst Prisons?

According to Freedom for All Americans, they listed this federal prison at #11 on their list, citing that the prison is full of gang violence between the Sureños and MS-13 gangs. Since 1998, there have been 7 inmate murders or fatal altercations in the USP Beaumont.

The Security Journal Americas also names USP Beaumont as one of the worst federal prisons in the US, stating gang violence, but also excessive force and mistreatment of inmates by the correction officers.  Also mentioned are the overcrowding and outdated facilities

Both cited poor healthcare, including delays in medical attention, mental healthcare, and poor quality of care.

The worst prison in the country is ADX Florence, a supermax prison in Florence, Colorado.
