ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Mental health and mental well-being have been in the spotlight for years; however, sometimes many don’t know where to start.
If you are trying to learn how to meditate and control your breathing, the Art of Living is hosting its “The Journey Within Wisdom & Meditation” at the Jefferson Center on Thursday, Aug. 31.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with best-selling author and renowned spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar who will be leading over 800 people in meditation. He is also the founder of the Art of Living Foundation, a global nonprofit that is present in over 100 countries.
Raghu Krishnamaneni says Art of Living has several programs and workshops and its design is based on breath work and meditation tools. He adds the methods are scientifically proven to help with all walks of life.
“In the U.S., we teach this program to Veterans who are suffering from PTSD [Post Traumatic Stress Disorder]. 8,000 veterans have already done the program,” said Krishnamaneni. “We teach it to prisons and prison inmates.”
Krishnamaneni says the program also works with students and has seen graduation rates increase and drop-out rates go down.
“One of the best ways to deal with mental health and mental well-being is using our own breath,” advised Krishnamaneni. “Breath is such a vital force and vital tool that we have used in which we can effectively manage the mind and negative emotions.”
Once The Journey Within Wisdom & Meditation is complete, guests will have the chance to ask questions.
