Last week the UN voted for five International Court of Justice judges and Dire Tladi secured South Africa’s first-ever seat at the 78-year-old World Court. He invites Muhammad Hussain to his home in Tshwane to chat about his campaign, his fiction novels and the Omar al-Bashir case.
It’s been a bright day in the diverse republic’s capital Tshwane, with the scarlet highveld sunset now in full bloom. As I approach the visitors’ gate of a complex in Olympus, I wonder what, for the umpteenth time, is the fascination of this estate (prison) living culture.
Whatever the case is, I am there to interview South Africa’s newly-elected and first judge to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) – Dire David Tladi.
