TECOLUCA, EL SALVADOR (WDTV) – Congressman Riley Moore, a Republican serving West Virginia’s second congressional district, travelled to the controversial mega-prison in El Salvador Tuesday.
Per CBS News, the United States government has sent more than 260 migrants suspected of crimes to the Salvadorian Center for Terrorism Confinement.
President Donald Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to “expedite the removal of Tren de Aragua savage gangs,” and to “target and dismantle every migrant criminal network operating on American soil.”
The Center for Terrorism Confinement is considered to be one of the largest prisons in the Americas, with the capacity to hold up to 40,000 people.
In a statement posted on social media, Rep. Moore says “I just toured the CECOT prison in El Salvador. This maximum security facility houses the country’s most brutal criminals, including murderers, rapists, pedophiles, and terrorists. Several inmates were extremely violent criminals recently deported from the U.S.
I leave now even more determined to support President Trump’s efforts to secure our homeland.”
Moore posed in front of prisoners in photos he posted to his social media accounts. It’s unclear whether these were accused Venezuelan gang members or other prisoners who are being housed in the facility.
One photo shows Rep. Moore giving a thumbs up to the camera while dozens of men are handcuffed in a large cell, wearing the CECOT signature white boxers and white tee shirt with shaved heads.
