Prison Architect is a strategy game which has you build a prison capable of containing “the world’s most ruthless inmates” only for you to then try and escape your own creation. The game garnered quite a bit of praise upon its release back in 2015, especially after a bunch of updates. 8 years later and a sequel has finally been announced – with a new 3D art style.
Releasing the surprise trailer to YouTube, the team at Double Eleven and Paradox Interactive officially announced Prison Architect 2. Though the trailer itself was rather short, it focused almost entirely on the game’s brand new art style.
Taking on the 3rd dimension, players will now be able to build prisons with multiple floors, making for an added level of depth and complexity.
Immediate reactions to the trailer have been mixed, with one of the primary concerns being the game’s new art style. Trying to translate the weird and unique character designs from the first game into 3D must not have been an easy task, but unfortunately so far the final results have been quite polarising.
Fortunately, regardless of your initial impressions, you’ll be able to try out the game very soon, with Prison Architect 2 announced to be arriving in just a few short months on the 26th of March.
