{KXLG – Watertown, SD} According to court documents, a plea agreement was added today and signed by Ted Jeffrey Hurkes on October 18, 2024, in the case that includes 72 individually listed charges.
A change of plea hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 9:00 am to plead guilty to one charge of first-degree rape; the State will dismiss all remaining charges and will not bring any further charges. Pleading guilty constitutes a waiver of his rights, including the right to a jury trial and the right to confront witnesses.
The State will agree to lift the bond upon Hurkes’ plea so he may begin serving his federal sentence while awaiting sentencing in this matter.
The maximum penalty for the charge is life imprisonment and a fine of up to $50,000. The plea agreement does not guarantee any specific sentence or fine.
