(Past Event) Redefining Justice: Tackling Wrongful Convictions and Reforming the Criminal Justice System

It’s estimated that between 1 and 6% of the 2.2 million people in the U.S prison system are incarcerated for crimes they did not commit. New York City has the third-highest number of wrongful convictions in the nation and New York State has paid over $300 million to those exonerated in the last 35 years. Join the Museum of the City of New York for a panel discussion with elected officials, attorneys, and those exonerated as we explore ways to create a more accurate and reliable criminal justice system.

Panelists:
Yusef Salaam, NYC City Councilmember Harlem, Exonerated Five
Christina Swarns, Executive Director, Innocence Project
Lucy Lang, NYS Inspector General
Alvin Bragg, Manhattan District Attorney

Moderated by Broadcast Journalist, Soledad O’Brien.
