Padre Azul is set to present its limited-edition Cristalino Añejo Tequila, featuring a specially designed bottle in collaboration with Swarovski and Mexican fashion brand Prison Art.
The bottle will be showcased at the upcoming TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes (Yellow Village, A13), alongside the Austrian crystal and jewellery house’s key collections.
The rare expression is limited to 1,000 bottles handcrafted by Swarovski, in partnership with Prison Art.
This spirit offers a blend of complex flavours of an aged tequila with the fresh notes of a silver tequila.
Each bottle is adorned with a crystal skull, reminiscent of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), shaped by Swarovski from a single piece of crystal, enhancing its visual appeal.
The bottleʼs distinctive design also highlights the work of an artist at Prison Art, a luxury brand that empowers prisoners through creative opportunities.
More than just a collector’s item, a share of the proceeds will be contributed to Prison Art, promoting the development and reintegration of prisoners and their families.
Padre Azul Tequila is a premium spirit inspired by the love story of its Founders Austrian Hans-Peter ‘HP’ Eder and Mexican Adriana Alvarez Maxemin, who met at the University of Heidelberg. Eder was introduced to the world of Mexican tequila by his father-in-law, discovering its rich tradition and cultural importance, far beyond the European stereotypes.
As he immersed himself in Mexico’s culture and people, his passion for distilling – inherited from his father, who crafted fine schnapps in Austria – evolved to focus on tequila. Together with Alvarez Maxemin and their friends, they launched Padre Azul Tequila with the mission of bringing this spirit to the European market.
Padre Azul is crafted using traditional methods at a family-owned distillery in Amatitán. The organic blue Weber agave, carefully cultivated for eight to ten years, is harvested at its peak.
The agave hearts, or piñas, are then slowly cooked in traditional mampostería ovens. From fermentation to double distillation and bottling, the process is led by Master Distiller Erika Sangeado, Alvarez Maxemin’s cousin and one of the few female master distillers globally.
Sangeado said: “Time is our most important ingredient – time to grow, time to restand, time to age. This is what makes our tequila so exceptionally smooth and unique.” ✈
