Infowars host Owen Shroyer received sudden news on Monday regarding his prison release date in his January 6, 2021, Capitol riot case.
On January 6, thousands of pro-Trump demonstrators stormed the U.S. Capitol building in an effort to stop Joe Biden‘s 2020 presidential election victory from being certified by Congress, which Donald Trump had repeatedly claimed, without evidence, was stolen from him. More than 1,100 people from all 50 states have been charged with a variety of alleged offenses in relation to their presence at the grounds of Congress that day.
“BREAKING: Owen Shroyer will now be released this Friday, 12/8/23,” @OwenShroyer1776 wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday morning.
A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed to Newsweek that Shroyer has a projected release date of December 8, 2023, from the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Oakdale in Louisiana.
The account @OwenShroyer1776, was previously run by Shroyer before he turned himself into prison in October for crimes relating to the riot. The account has continued to detail his prison sentence, such as his previous time spent in solitary confinement last month.
In September, Shroyer, who served as a co-host alongside Alex Jones on the conservative show Infowars, was sentenced to 60 days in prison for taking part in the insurrection, after he admitted to leading a march to near the top of the Capitol’s steps, but did not enter the building. He pleaded guilty in June to illegally entering a restricted area—a misdemeanor punishable by a maximum sentence of one year behind bars.
Although Shroyer has said he did not physically enter the Capitol on January 6, prosecutors accused him of calling for “violence” and spreading misinformation about the 2020 election.
On October 23, Shroyer’s X account posted a video of him announcing that he was turning himself into custody for the charges. “Unfortunately we knew the Democrats were this corrupt and now I have to hit the front lines and be a speech prisoner in Biden’s America,” he said in the video.
Shortly after turning himself in, another video was posted by Shroyer’s X account, which included leaked audio of him while in custody. The video led to Shroyer being placed in solitary confinement.
“BREAKING: We have confirmed through a source within FCI Oakdale prison that Owen is doing well and remains in good spirits…With that said, unfortunately he is being held in solitary confinement until Monday 10/30 per the facility’s (absurd/pathetic) COVID intake protocol,” the @OwenShroyer1776 account wrote.
Norm Pattis, a lawyer representing Shroyer, previously told Newsweek that his client “is apparently once again being punished for speech.”
“I’ve reached out to prison officials for an explanation. Silence. I’m calling on Speaker Mike Johnson to intervene. The Oakdale prison is in his district,” Pattis said at the time.
Newsweek reached out to Pattis via email on Monday for further comment.
Meanwhile, Representative Matt Gaetz, a Florida Republican, responded to the news of Shroyer’s release on X and wrote, “So many prayers answered.”
