Oscoda man convicted of threatening Iosco County prosecutor

IOSCO COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) – An Oscoda man faces up to six months in jail for threatening the Iosco County prosecutor over a landlord-tenant issue last winter.

Court records show an Iosco County jury found 40-year-old Dominque Simo guilty of one count of malicious use of a telecommunications device for threatening Iosco County Prosecuting Attorney James A. Bacarella.

Simo had been living in a residence that Bacarella owns. On Feb. 11, Simo called Bacarella and demanded the prosecutor appear at Simo’s residence within 28 minutes or Bacarella would “deeply regret it,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said.

The February incident came after a separate threat in 2023, in which Simo allegedly threatened to shoot Bacarella.

“In a time where escalating threats are becoming alarmingly frequent, I am grateful that the jury unequivocally recognized that such behavior cannot be tolerated or normalized,” said Nessel, whose office prosecuted the case.

Simo faces up to six months in jail a $1,000 fine. Prosecutors also will ask the court to mandate some mental health treatment for Simo as part of his sentence.
