A New Orleans, Louisiana, man will spend more than 12 years in federal prison for a 2022 carjacking in Vidor, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas Damien M. Diggs announced Monday.
Aubrey Young, 37, pleaded guilty to carjacking and was sentenced to 150 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on Monday, a news release said.
The court heard that on Oct. 26, 2022, Young approached two people in Vidor asking if they had work for him. After they said they didn’t, Young took a gun from his backpack and demanded the keys to the victims’ vehicle. He then fled in their car, which was spotted near Anahuac.
After a high-speed chase, Young was arrested and a firearm was found in the stolen vehicle, the news release said.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Vidor Police Department, the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Grove prosecuted the case.
On April 18, 2024, U.S. Attorney Diggs announced the launch of the Carjacking Task Force in the Eastern District of Texas. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives work with state and local law enforcement partners to target carjackings in Southeast Texas.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that unites all levels of law enforcement and communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence in order to make neighborhoods safer.
