On Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m., the Mariposa Museum, 26 Main St. in Peterborough, will present a free in-person and Zoom panel discussion exploring New Hampshire’s criminal justice system.
Hosted by Mariposa co-founder David Blair, the panel will explore experiences of being incarcerated, the school-to-prison pipeline, practices of restorative justice in New Hampshire, critical-incident training for police and ways that organizations are working to protect justice for New Hampshire communities and people who are or have been incarcerated.
The discussion coincides with the opening of the Mariposa’s latest exhibit, “Stitching Time: The Social Justice Collaboration Quilts Project,” featuring quilts by men who are serving life and long sentences at Louisiana State Penitentiary, aka “Angola” prison.
Panelists will include Frank Knack, policy director for ACLU-NH; P. Natasha Mitchell and Brian Mitchell, founders, CEO and facilitators at Potter’s Wheel Community Services; Jodiann K. Gleason, a dispatcher at Manchester Police Department with a doctorate in law enforcement and mental health; and Antony Tone Payton, a journalist, podcaster and publisher with Nashua Digital and Granite State News Collaborative.
“This event offers what promises to be a rich and informative discussion by an extraordinary group of panelists,” stated Karla Hostetler, executive director of the Mariposa Museum. “With a free admission charge and the option of attending in-person or via Zoom, we hope many people will wish to take part to increase awareness and gain insights that can help us all contribute to creating a safer and more-just society.”
