CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A federal jury convicted 43-year-old Juan Pablo Ramirez back in July of this year, following a one-day trial for possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute it.
In January, Ramirez drove his truck to the Falfurrias Border Patrol checkpoint. He consented to an inspection of his truck that revealed five packages of cocaine hidden in the truck’s dashboard.
U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani ordered Ramirez to federal prison for trafficking cocaine and U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos ordered him to serve nine years in prison that will be followed immediately by four years of supervised release.
When handing down the sentence, the court noted the number of drugs involved in the offense as well as his criminal history and prior conviction for trafficking meth.
Ramirez will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility that will be determined in the months to come.
