A striking exhibition of prisoner-created artwork has returned to Shepton Mallet Prison this month, shining a spotlight on the transformative power of creativity behind bars.
Running until 31st May, Art Behind Bars is presented in partnership with the respected charity Alabaré, as part of their Burnbake Prison Art Project. The exhibition showcases a moving and diverse collection of paintings and other works produced by inmates, with the aim of supporting rehabilitation through artistic expression.
Alabaré has long championed the therapeutic benefits of art for incarcerated individuals, and this latest exhibition seeks not only to highlight their initiative but also offer visitors the chance to support it directly. All artworks are available for purchase, with proceeds helping to fund continued programmes.
Admission to the exhibition is free and open to all, though booking a time slot via the Shepton Mallet Prison website is required. Alongside the art, visitors can enhance their experience with guided tours, hands-on activities and themed events.
