
Beaumont — An inmate has died at a Beaumont hospital after he was found unresponsive in the United States Penitentiary in Beaumont, according to J. Rosa, the local public information officer for the Bureau of Prisons.
Amadeo M. Lailes, 31, was found unresponsive at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Staff initiated lifesaving measures and he was transported by EMS to a hospital where he died.
Rosa wouldn’t reveal specific detail. He told us the BOP doesn’t release that information.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified.
“No employees or other incarcerated individuals were injured and at no time was the public in danger,” according to Rosa.
Lailes was sentenced in the District of New Mexico to 6 years in federal prison for bank robbery. He’d been in custody at USP Beaumont since March 11, 2024.
Records show in October, 2022, Lailes robbed the Bank of America in Sante Fe, New Mexico. He was also charged with robbing a credit union in Sante Fe while awaiting on the bank robbery charge.
