Hamas Calls on International Institutions to Assume Responsibility for Palestinian Prisoners
Gaza – (Saba):
Mahmoud Mardawi, a leader in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), called on international institutions concerned with prisoners’ rights to assume their responsibilities regarding the systematic assassinations of Palestinian prisoners, including leaders of the prisoner movement, inside Israeli prisons.
Mardawi stressed in a press statement on Monday that these institutions, especially the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), are obligated to monitor the conditions of Palestinian prisoners, take serious action to put an end to the daily torture and abuse they are subjected to, and expose the occupation’s crimes against them.
He said, “International agreements require the imposition of sanctions on the enemy state, the prosecution of criminals who violate prisoners’ rights, and the exposing of the violations and crimes committed against them to the world.”
He explained that the ongoing crimes against prisoners and leaders of the prisoner movement constitute a flagrant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which clearly stipulates the need to impose effective penal sanctions against perpetrators of crimes against prisoners.
Mardawi stressed the need for effective Palestinian action at all levels to rescue prisoners from the hell of prisons and send a clear message to the world that the Palestinian people will not abandon their prisoners to the injustice of the occupation.
