Dr. Audrey Hager, visiting assistant professor of psychology, is featured in the documentary “Tradition, Trauma, & Tenderness” that has been selected for submission into three different film festivals: The 2023 Buffalo International Film Festival,
the Cannes World Film Festival and the Stockholm City Film Festival.
The film is a meditation on the universal nature of trauma, and how traditions passed on in a tender, nurturing environment can help heal and prevent trauma. The film presents the experiences of an individual, family, community, and diverse cultures
from around the globe with particular focus on the local Native American experience. Hager aids in providing insights from psychological and neuroscience perspectives that are interwoven into a series of stories that are both particular and intimate,
while at the same time reflect far-reaching issues and themes.
The film will be screened as part of the Buffalo International Film Festival at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, at the Burchfield Penny Art Museum. Hager, along with other presenters, will be available afterward to take questions from the audience.
Other presenters include producer and co-director Valerie Walawender and famed Native American traditional artist Peter Jones.
