Israel does not require the likes of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to get involved in the Gaza war, because it can and will prosecute those in its ranks who are responsible for war crimes, the top lawyers for its government and military told a conference on Monday.

The ICC’s chief prosecutor has sought to arrest Israel’s prime minister and its defence secretary, and on Friday the International Court of Justice (ICJ) – in the interpretation of South Africa, among others – ordered Israel to halt its offensive in Rafah.

That won’t be necessary, Israel’s attorney general Gali Baharav-Miara told a legal conference.
