BRUSSELS July 16. 2024 (Saba) – The European Union has reaffirmed its steadfast support for the International Criminal Court, stressing its determination to defend the integrity of the Rome Statute, the universality of the court and its independence.

This came on the occasion of the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute in 1998, the founding treaty of the International Criminal Court, which falls tomorrow, Wednesday.

The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, said in a statement on behalf of all member states: “The European Union stands firmly against any attempts to undermine the framework of the Rome Statute and the broader international criminal justice system, on which the last hopes of many victims around the world rest.”
