El Chapo’s wife seen partying in L.A. days after release from prison

Emma Coronel Aispuro, the wife of former Mexican drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, was spotted sampling the Los Angeles nightlife just days after being released from custody.

The 34-year-old was released from federal custody on Wednesday after serving just two of her three-year sentence for drug trafficking charges.

While her husband El Chapo is currently serving a life sentence at the ADX Florence Supermax prison in Colorado, Coronel stepped out to celebrate her newfound freedom.

TMZ confirmed that Coronel Aispuro arrived at a Los Angeles venue called El Farallon for an event organised by her attorney, Mariel Colon Miro.

The model was spotted having drinks with her group and enjoying a live music performance on Friday evening.

The entertainment for the nighttime event was actually Coronel Aispuro’s attorney, Miro, who decided to put on a show for her client under her stage name ‘La Abogada’ – which translates as the attorney’ in Spanish.

The 29-year-old attorney/singer became part of El Chapo’s legal team in 2017, and briefly worked with convicted child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein prior to his death in 2019.

The LA-based evening comes after Coronel Aispuro was released from a halfway house in Long Beach, California this week.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, she is now on supervised release and will be under surveillance for the next two years, as per Reuters.

In November 2021, the wife of El Chapo was sentenced by a US judge to three years in federal prison after she pleaded guilty to three charges of money laundering conspiracy, drug trafficking charges and engaging in financial dealings.

Upon her sentencing, the mum-of-two was initially housed at a federal prison in Texas and agreed to pay a whopping $1.5million (£1.2m) in fines.

However, she was reportedly moved from the Texas prison and into a transitional, low-security facility in California.

The former beauty queen was first arrested in February 2021, while at Dulles International Airport, and was later sentenced in relation to crimes committed by El Chapo’s Sinaloa Cartel.

However, during the trial, prosecutors and her defence lawyers concluded that the mum-of-two was not involved in core business deals relating to shipments of cocaine, heroin and other drugs.

Prosecutor Anthony Nardozzi said on record: “The defendant’s actual role was a minimal one.

“The defendant was not a leader, organiser, boss or other type of manager. Rather she was a cog in a very large wheel of a criminal organisation.”

She did, however, eventually plead guilty to multiple federal drug charges, which included conspiring to distribute heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana.

As per Telemundo, Coronel Aispuro also begged for forgiveness during her sentencing.

She said: “I beg you to not allow them to grow up without the presence of a mother.”

While his wife is now out of confinement, El Chapo himself is serving a life sentence in the US after being extradited there in 2017. It follows two escapes from Mexican maximum-security prisons.
