Editorial: Rebuke or reform?

Quite regularly on these pages, there are articles out of the state court system that draw criticism and ire. Mostly, the concern centers on imposed sentences. Members of the public often feel that sentences are too light, or that the probation conditions are too lenient. The perception, often, is that criminals are being cycled through the system, only to show up again and again as “frequent flyers.”

That is part of why coverage of the judicial system is important. The coverage chronicles what can be perceived as gaps in the system.
