U.S. President Donald Trump has seemingly ordered the reopening of the notorious Alcatraz prison, claiming that it would house “America’s most ruthless and violent offenders.” Trump, 78, made the post on his Truth Social on Sunday evening.

“REBUILD, AND OPEN ALCATRAZ,” the president posted. “For too long, America has been plagued by vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders, the dregs of society, who will never contribute anything other than Misery and Suffering.”

“When we were a more serious Nation, in times past, we did not hesitate to lock up the most dangerous criminals, and keep them far away from anyone they could harm,” Trump pandered. “That’s the way it’s supposed to be. No longer will we tolerate these Serial Offenders who spread filth, bloodshed, and mayhem on our streets.”

“That is why, today, I am directing the Bureau of Prisons, together with the Department of Justice, FBI, and Homeland Security, to reopen a substantially enlarged and rebuilt ALCATRAZ, to house America’s most ruthless and violent Offenders,” Trump added. “We will no longer be held hostage to criminals, thugs, and Judges that are afraid to do their job and allow us to remove criminals, who came into our Country illegally.”

“The reopening of ALCATRAZ will serve as a symbol of Law, Order, and JUSTICE. We will, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” concluded Trump. The announcement left many divided on how to feel.

“Alcatraz is a broken-down tourist attraction. It’s not worth rebuilding. If you want an island prison, make a new one,” one person said. A second user broke down the exact cost of what it would take to make the prison operational again.

“It would cost more than $100 million dollars to fix the infrastructure there,” they wrote. “And what about DOGE wouldn’t this be wasteful spending in the long run. For the amount of money that would be spent on opening Alcatraz I say spend it on prisons with a lot less deterioration.

Alcatraz is so run down, it’d be cheaper and faster to just build a new supermax,” a third person commented.

“Never expected this but YEAH LET’S GO,” one excited user said. “100% in favor of reopening ALCATRAZ and locking up criminals!”

The prison was home to several notorious inmates such as the Sinister Six, gangster Al Capone, and Whitey Bulger. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1986.

The Mirror has contacted the National Parks Department, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, and California Senator Adam Schiff. Trump did not offer any timetable as to when the prison might be operational.
