Diddy is ‘attractive target’ for assault in prison and life will be ‘austere’

P Diddy has found himself behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, having been denied bail not once but twice.

The scandal-hit rapper was arrested on September 16 following an indictment for racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.

After pleading not guilty in a Manhattan courtroom on September 17, his legal representatives Marc Agnifilo and Teny R Geragos put forward a bail plea that was rejected by two judges.

Agnifilo and Geragos have described the notorious prison as “not fit for pre-trial detention” with “horrific” conditions, even noting that an inmate was killed there during the summer.

Currently, Diddy is housed in the Special Housing Unit of the prison and is said to be under suicide watch. Ex-MDC warden and corrections expert Cameron Lindsay has revealed what life’s like inside for the 54 year old and the dangers he’s up against, reports the Mirror US.

Lindsay warns: “His huge celebrity status and the allegations of violence against women make him a very attractive target for assault,” adding, “And in the subculture in the world of jails and prisons to deliver a hit on somebody like him would be considered a badge of honor.”

The former warden described the place as “austere” and chilly, telling PEOPLE: “Everything is planned. It’s not a life.” Cameron pointed out that Diddy won’t have internet access and any time spent outdoors will be in an enclosed space.

R&B singer R. Kelly’s attorney, Nicole Blank Becker, also told PEOPLE that his stint at the MDC was “mentally crippling” and “one of the worst experiences that I have ever heard of.” The fallen star was held at MDC-Brooklyn after his 2021 federal conviction for sex crimes involving minors.

He is now serving a 31-year sentence at FCI Butner Medium I in North Carolina. “If Diddy is going to go through anything like what R. Kelly went through, it’s not going to be good,” she remarked. She further opined that the facility is “not at all” safe.

Federal consultant Sam Mangel also informed The Mirror US that MDC ranks among the most dreadful prisons in the United States, citing its appalling conditions. He mentioned the jail being “tremendously” short on staff, with issues in maintenance concerning the HVAC system, water, and toilets.

Mangel also noted that four inmates have taken their own lives in the last three years and described the jail as “unbelievably loud” due to “people banging on the cell blocks all night.”
