Democracy a balance between majority rule and individual rights: US Jurists at JGLS Colloquium on Democracy and Rule of Law

Further discussions included comments by Justice Jenny Rivera, Associate Judge, New York State Court of Appeals, Justice Josephine L Staton, Judge, U.S. District Court, Central District of California and Prof. Camille Nelson, Dean, William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaii.

The speakers dwelt on interdisciplinary law that exists in a political, economic, social and historic space and observed that democracy is not only representation, but also about basic values, the centre of which are human rights, and a delicate balance between majority rule and individual rights.
