A Cochise County pistachio farmer’s request for probation was rejected last week and he was sentenced to two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to two felonies for his conduct at the U.S. Capitol while Congress was meeting on Jan. 6, 2021, to certify the 2020 presidential election results.
Jacob L. Zerkle of Bowie must also serve three years of supervised release as part of a plea deal which led to his convictions of civil disorder and assaulting or impeding officers in the course of their duties. He was taken into custody during the Feb. 22 hearing in Washington, D.C., but as of press time his location is not listed on the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ website.
