Art exhibition featuring prisoners’ work opens at Somerset jail

The Art Behind Bars display, in conjunction with the Alabaré Burnbake Prison Art Project, includes a variety of pieces created by inmates.

It aims to aid rehabilitation through the “therapeutic benefits of art” and runs until Saturday, May 31.

Free admission can be booked via the Shepton Mallet Prison website, with optional tours and activities available for an enhanced visit.

A new high-stakes escape-room-style experience, Turf Wars: A New Realm, across four themed arenas, has also been launched.

A spokesperson for the event said: “This exhibition not only raises awareness of the project, but provides visitors with the opportunity to purchase the artwork on display.”
