1. Nottingham International Criminal Justice Conference. The University of Nottingham School of Law, in partnership with the International Criminal Justice Unit of the University of Nottingham Human Rights Law Centre, is organising a conference on 8 – 9 July 2024 that will bring together people working across the diverse field of international criminal justice. At this interdisciplinary conference, they are aiming to foster connections between academics, practitioners and policymakers, as they hear about recent developments in research and practice, and explore, discuss and debate current issues in the field. 2. Refugee and Migration Studies Summer School. The Refugee and Migration Studies Hub of the University of Athens in cooperation with the Harvard FXB Center for Health & Human Rights is organising the 3rd edition of the Refugee and Migration Studies Summer School in July 2024. The RMS Summer School is an intensive three-week program that runs in Athens, Ancient Olympia, Nafplion, and Lesvos and combines lectures, seminars, simulation activities, and fieldwork. The multidisciplinary curriculum draws upon legal, political, medical, and communication aspects of the phenomenon of migratory flows. Applications are open until 22 January 2024. 3. Call for Papers: A Multi-disciplinary Take on the Role of the Judiciary in the Law of the Sea. The Judicial Jurisdiction Project of the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS) and the Utrecht University Centre for Water, Oceans and Sustainability Law (UCWOSL) – both part of the School of Law at Utrecht University – invite papers for a conference on: A multi-disciplinary take on the role of the judiciary in the law of the sea. Contributions are welcomed on a range of themes that are devoted, but not limited, to themes with explicit reference to UNCLOS tribunals and their case law. 4. ITLOS – Nippon Foundation Capacity Building and Training Programme 2024-2025. The ITLOS-Nippon Foundation Capacity-Building and Training Programme on Dispute Settlement under UNCLOS will take place from July 2024 – March 2025, to be held at ITLOS (Hamburg, Germany). 5. iCourts and MOBILE PhD Summer School. The Centre of Excellence for International Courts (iCourts) and Centre of Excellence on Global Mobility Law (MOBILE) are hosting a Summer School for PhD students working on international law in its social and political contexts. They particularly welcome applications from students from the Global South, whose projects have a strong empirical approach, and who focus on the core research areas of iCourts and MOBILE, i.e. international courts and global mobility law respectively. The call is now open and the deadline for applications is 9 February 2024. The Summer School will take place at the Faculty of Law at the University of Copenhagen on 17-21 June 2024. 6. Call for Papers: Recharacterising International Disputes – Exploring the Phenomenon of Multi-Fora Litigation. Maastricht University’s Faculty of Law is organising a conference on 12-13 June 2024 to explore the phenomena of recharacterisation, compartmentalisation, disaggregation, and reframing of legal disputes to fit within the jurisdiction of one or more international or regional bodies. Scholars and practitioners are invited to submit an abstract (up to 400 words) and a brief author bio (up to 100 words) for consideration by 31 January 2024. Read more and apply here.
7. Call for Papers: Dialogues on International Law. The 7th Conference “Dialogues on International Law” will take place at Di Tella Law School (Buenos Aires) on 15 August 2024. The general theme of the conference will be “International Law & History”. The keynote lectures will be given by Professor Larissa van den Herik (University of Leiden) and Professor Samuel Moyn (Yale University). The Conference seeks to bring together scholars in International Law and related disciplines, such as IR, History, Economics, and Philosophy, to examine contemporary issues concerning the international legal system, the international community. In 2024, the focus will be on contemporary work on history and international law. They welcome papers on any area of international law that tackles the general theme, including papers on war, trade, the environment, human rights, sources, regionalism, etc. The call is open to scholars, practitioners, and advanced students of international law and related disciplines. Paper proposals must be unpublished, and may be submitted in Spanish and English. Discussion in Buenos Aires will be held in English. Abstracts will be received (maximum 500 words) until 14 February 2024. They should be sent to dialogosDI {at} utdt(.)edu. Selected participants will be notified by 24 February. Proposals should contain an abstract and a brief CV of the candidate(s). Speakers will be responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses (limited funds may be available for accommodation). Selected papers from the Conference may be published in LADI – Revista Latinoamericana de Derecho Internacional, subject to peer review.
