Fear the Walking Dead and The Madness actor Colman Domingo has wow’d critics with his performance in the movie Sing Sing. The actor has been nominated for SAG, Critics Choice, Golden Globe, and BAFTA awards for his role in the film.
The Hollywood Reporter reported that on Friday, Jan. 17, the movie became the first to be released simultaneously in theaters and prisons. The film is directed by Greg Kwedar and tells of a group of men incarcerated at the Sing Sing prison, where they are involved in the Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA) program.
Based on John H. Richardson’s Breakin’ the Mummy’s Code, the movie, acquired by A24 at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, stars Colman Domingo, who portrays John “Divine G” Whitfield, a man who was wrongfully convicted. Paul Raci (Sound of Metal) also stars with several formerly incarcerated men who were active in the RTA program, including Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin and Jon-Adrian “JJ” Velazquez.
Domingo shared his excitement about the release and many moments of encouragement from his peers.
” “Sing Sing is one of the best and most powerful movies you’ll see this year. Despite the grim surroundings, it has a heart full to bursting and a spirit that soars.””
