ANSA McAL Barbados, along with its subsidiaries – ANSA Motors, ANSA Merchant Bank, Berger Paints, Bryden Stokes Ltd, Brydens Xpress and Retail, Standard Distribution, and Trident Insurance – has unveiled its 2025 calendar featuring artwork created by prison inmates.
Titled Inspiring Better Choices for a Better World, the calendar is part of a longstanding collaboration with the Barbados Prison Service.
For over eight years, ANSA McAL and its subsidiaries have partnered with the prison’s art department to produce this unique calendar. It showcases paintings by inmates, including many pieces that have earned awards at the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA).
Assistant Chief Officer Joel Brathwaite, who accepted the calendars on behalf of the Superintendent of Prisons, stressed the importance of this initiative.
“The Barbados Prison Service’s mission is to rehabilitate our charges so that they enter society as a productive and contributing member of society. Thus, our rehabilitation strategy is to sensitise all inmates so we can achieve our vision,” he said.
Rachel Pilgrim, Head of Marketing for ANSA McAL Barbados, shared the company’s enthusiasm for the project.
“We enjoy managing this project every year and provide the paints and canvases for the inmates to create these wonderful pieces of art. The paintings are then photographed in order to produce the calendar which is handed out to our customers at our various companies. This initiative is very much in keeping with the ANSA McAL Group’s purpose of ‘Inspiring Better Choices for a Better World’, and our commitment to investing in the wellbeing of our people and our communities.”
