{KXLG – Yankton, SD} South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has announced that Theodore Kranig, Jr., a 19-year-old Yankton resident, has been indicted on one count of Second Degree Murder and one count of Manslaughter in the first degree in connection with the death of another Yankton man. A Yankton County Grand Jury handed down the indictment on Friday.
The charges stem from an incident on December 13, 2024, at a residence in Yankton. The Second Degree Murder charge carries a maximum sentence of mandatory life imprisonment, while the Manslaughter in the First Degree charge also carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
Kranig is currently held at the Yankton County Jail on a $250,000 cash-only bond. He is presumed innocent under the U.S. Constitution and is scheduled to appear in court on January 2, 2025.
The Yankton Police Department and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) investigated the incident. The South Dakota Attorney General’s Office and the Yankton County State’s Attorney’s Office are prosecuting the case.
