Arkansas Jan. 6 insurrectionist released from federal prison

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT/KARK) – A Conway man who pled guilty to participating in the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection is no longer in federal prison.

A U.S. Bureau of Prisons spokesperson confirmed to content partner KARK that 45-year-old Peter Stager was released from federal custody on Monday, Oct. 21. He was arrested on Jan. 14, 2021.

Stager had been sentenced to 52 months in prison with credit for time served at a July 2023 hearing. The spokesperson said the sentence was reduced based on good behavior policies and participation in prison programs.

An arrest warrant for Stager was issued after he was seen beating a Washington police officer with an American flagpole during the riot. Later that day, video showed him calling for the death of lawmakers in the Capitol.
