CIW among two prisons under investigation by U.S. Department of Justice for staff sexual abuse

The U.S. Department of Justice opened an investigation Wednesday into sexual abuse of inmates by correctional officers at the California Institution for Women (CIW) in Chino after 21 women filed a lawsuit alleging violations took place between 2014 and 2020.

An investigation into allegations at the Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla will also take place where hundreds of private lawsuits in the past two years have been filed, the Justice Department announced.
