Criminal Law Section seeks nominations for Selig Goldin Award

Criminal Law Section logoThe Criminal Law Section is seeking nominations for the 2024 Selig I. Goldin Memorial Award.

This is the highest award given by the Criminal Law Section and recognizes the recipient’s outstanding contributions to Florida’s criminal justice system.

Previous recipients include justices of the Florida Supreme Court, judges of the district courts of appeal and circuit courts, a former U.S. attorney general, state attorneys, public defenders, private defense lawyers, and law professors. More information and a list of previous recipients may be found here.

Nominations must be submitted by February 16, 2024, and must include the name of the candidate, a description of their contribution to the criminal justice system, a biographical sketch or resume, and the candidate’s contact information.

Selig Goldin is a former Gainesville attorney and Criminal Law Section Executive Council member who died of cancer in 1980 at the age of 41. Goldin was a “man who would not turn away a client because they could not afford to pay, or because their case was unpopular,” according to a biography.
