Woman’s attempt at sneaking drugs into prison noticed by shaky leg, over by dropped packages

A woman in Florida is accused of trying to sneak drugs into a prison. Now, she has a jail cell of her own.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said Maria Maceo planned to use a false name and smuggle the drugs while visiting an inmate at the Century Correctional Facility near Pensacola.

Maceo got as far as sitting next to a lifer, Kenneth Eriby, also known as Blood and Little Kenny, along with other aliases.

Authorities have not said how they know each other. Maceo, 52, is from Miami and Eriby, 33, has been locked up at the other end of the state since he was sentenced for first-degree murder back in 2010.

Maceo’s alleged plan started to fail when a suspicious-minded corrections employee noticed her shaking her leg in an unusual manner while talking to Eriby.

Then, she was reported pulling out two packages she was hiding and handing them to Eriby.

That didn’t go well.

He dropped both packages on the floor, and Maceo reportedly picked them up and tossed them toward Eriby.

In the end, corrections staff reported finding each had a package, one with cocaine and the other with suspected marijuana.

Authorities learned Maceo’s real name and that there was a warrant for her arrest back home in Miami involving drugs.

Now, she’s also charged with cocaine trafficking, smuggling contraband into prison, and resisting an officer.

Maceo was taken from prison to the Escambia County Jail and her bail was set at $55,000.

As for Eriby, his profile on the Florida Department of Correction’s website says he’s not eligible for regular visits.
