Art festivals fill downtown Ann Arbor once again

Art fairs are as prolific as mosquitos during the summer months.

But the Ann Arbor art fairs remain the standard-setter for them all.

This year’s three-day festival runs through Saturday, July 23, its wide footprint mashing up three separate events — the Ann Arbor Street Fair, the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair and the Ann Arbor State Street Fair — with nearly 1,000 artists of all creative disciplines. HGTV’s Keith Bynum will create paintings in real-time, while David Zinn will create chalk art on the streets. The Toledo Museum of Art will host live glass-blowing, and the Ann Arbor Potters Guild will do some ceramic demonstrations.

There will be art for the ears, too, on three stages. The Ark is curating evening acts for the Stage On Main, which will also host Friday and Saturday takeovers by the Prison Creative Arts Project.

It’s a lot, of course, and planning is recommended. Check out schedules and other information via theannarborartfair.com.
