
{KXLG – Watertown, SD} Eric Skott, of Watertown, SD, in this case labeled a contractor, has been indicted by a Codington County Grand Jury on one count of Misappropriation of Funds by Contractor, Subcontractor or Supplier – Grand Theft – Class 4 Felony. The indictment, filed on May 22, 2025, alleges that Skott misused funds intended for a new home build.
KXLG News has confirmed through the Codington County Sheriff’s Office that Skott was arrested on that charge on June 4, 2025, and released on PR bond shortly after.
According to the indictment, on or about January 3, 2023, in Codington County, Skott, acting as a contractor, knowingly used more than $5,000 but less than $100,000 of payments received from the homeowner for purposes other than paying for labor, skill, materials, and machinery contributed to the home build. This alleged misuse occurred while accounts for such labor, skill, material, or machinery remained unpaid and due under the agreed credit terms.
The charge of Misappropriation of Funds by Contractor, Subcontractor, or Supplier—grand Theft—Class 4 Felony is a violation of South Dakota Codified Laws (SDCL) 44-9-13, 22-30A-17, and 22-6-1(7).
The indictment names Sigurd Sivertson as a witness who testified before the Grand Jury regarding these charges.
The indictment is a formal accusation, and Skott is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The prosecution is currently being shown as the State’s Attorney Alison Bakken and Joseph Thronson. The counsel listed for Skott is Erin Willadsen at Meierhenry Sargent LLP. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for July 15, 2025.
