Here’s how 10 violent New Orleans inmates escaped jail

Bye-ou!

The 10 violent inmates who escaped a Louisiana prison Friday broke out using a small window that was covered by a toilet — and left a wall full of taunting graffiti for investigators, photos show.

Orleans Justice Center officials made the shocking discovery during headcount at 8:30 a.m. — just over eight hours after the jibe-happy gang of allegedly violent offenders used the small porthole to enter a maintenance area, scale a wall and exit the New Orleans prison, WVUE reported.

One witness reported seeing all 10 inmates — clad in their matching orange jumpsuits — running across Interstate 10 in the dark of night, outlet reported.

The jailbirds moved a toilet and squeezed out of a small rectangular porthole just after midnight, officials said. OPSO

“To Easy LOL,” a misspelled message directly above the small rectangular and weakly barred window read.

“I’m/We Innocent,” another declared.

“Most Hated 9″ was scrawled in the middle of a crudely drawn smiley face with a stuck-out tongue while another note taunted, “Catch us when you can.”

Louisiana police officials were, in fact, able to catch one of the 10 escapees around 11 a.m. — taking Kendall Myles, who was accused of shooting a man, into custody, WVUE reported.

Myles was discovered, pursued and arrested by NOLA cops in the French Quarter, the city’s most popular tourist area, according to a Louisiana State Police Facebook post.

The rest of the lammers have violent criminal histories, with officials worrying the convicts could be looking to settle old scores, WVUE reported.

Derrick Groves was convicted of double murder from a mass shooting during Mardi Gras in 2018, and police warned he could be looking for trial witnesses, according to the outlet.

Corey Boyed is accused of second-degree murder and aggravated battery, while Gary Price was being held on attempted first-degree murder.

Repeat escapee Antoine Massey was locked up on domestic abuse, theft, parole violation, kidnapping and rape charges.

Lenton Venburen was accused of murder in 2021 and was being held on firearm possession and parole violation.

Leo Tate faced burglary and weapons possession charges, while Robert Moody is accused of drug trafficking, battery and obstruction of justice.

Dkenan Dennis was nabbed for armed robbery and weapons charges.

Earlier reports misidentified Keith Lewis as an escapee before discovering that he had simply been moved to another unit within Orleans Justice Center, WVUE reported, citing local police.

Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson stated Friday that the plumbing panels behind the toilet used in the escape could only be removed from the outside — which could indicate the inmates had outside help, according to the outlet.

Staffing levels at the jail are currently 60%, the sheriff reported.

State officials are outraged at the slapstick shortcoming.

“Someone clearly dropped the ball and there’s no excuse for this,” Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill told the outlet.

She’s calling for a full investigation into the jailbreak and stated she wanted to know whether staffers or any outsiders were complicit.

The jail remains on full lockdown.

Both an internal investigation and a manhunt are underway in New Orleans.
