Another property in Binghamton could be locked down by the city if ongoing problems aren’t addressed soon.
The city has notified the owners of a single-family house at 35 Baxter Street in the First Ward that the place has been the source of criminal activity and neighborhood disturbances.
Public records show the property is owned by an LLC with a listed address of Forest Hills, Queens. The house was acquired for $13,000 in 2017.
According to Mayor Jared Kraham, city police arrested four people at the site on August 1 following an investigation by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force.
A search of the house turned up a stolen .38 special Colt revolver and ammunition. Police also found OxyContin pills and $3,540 in suspected drug proceeds.
Three people were arrested on felony weapon and narcotics charges. One person was charged with criminal impersonation.
About a month earlier, a person who lived at 35 Baxter Street was arrested after two city code enforcement employees were menaced with a BB gun.
Police have been called to the address several times over the past year to deal with disturbances and noise complaints.
After property owners have received a lockdown warning, they have 30 days to meet with city officials and submit a plan to address the nuisance.
If the owners don’t comply, a complaint can be filed with city court to seek a temporary closing of the premises.
