14 inmates graduate from life skills program at Florida prison

Fourteen men doing time at a Florida prison were able to graduate from the Prison Fellowship Academy.

The program at the Okaloosa Correctional Institution spends the year teaching life skills like balancing a checkbook, resolving conflicts and dealing with addiction.

The idea is to replace criminal thinking and behavior with faith-based principles.

The training has been successful for those who complete the program.

“I feel hopeful, encouraged, blessed to be able to be a participant in this program and to be able to learn everything that this program has equipped me with, that now I can use it my life and I can use it in others,” Michael Salgado said.

“We have six core values: community, affirmation, productivity, responsibility, restoration, and integrity. And that’s what we work on with the men,” Brian Adams said.

The Prison Fellowship Academy is available at three prisons in Florida.

Okaloosa Correctional hopes to have another session in the near future.
