- Malaria is continuing to spread in Sarasota County as the state remains on alert for the mosquito-borne illness.
- A rioter from the Jan. 6 Insurrection on Capitol Hill from the Tampa Bay area has been sentenced to federal prison.
- Tampa’s popular Forbici restaurant is expanding across the bridge to Pinellas County.

Here are the top stories in Tampa today:
- A Spring Hill participant in the Jan. 6 Insurrection on Capitol Hill has been sentenced to six years in federal prison. The participant was accused of urging rioters to breach the federal building. The sentencing also adds 36 months of supervised release as well as restitution of $2,000 to the Architect of the Capitol. (New Port Richey Patch)
- Malaria continues to spread in Sarasota County with a seventh case confirmed by health officials this past weekend. The mosquito-borne illness can be deadly and has not been seen for 20 years in Florida. Sarasota and Manatee counties are under a mosquito-borne illness alert, while Polk County is under a mosquito-born illness advisory. The public is asked to stay vigilant in preventing mosquito bites and to remove standing water. (ABC Action News)
- Tampa Walls is working to help grow the number of public art installations around the City of Tampa community. The project is being done in partnership with Tampa Heights YMCA, Mergeculture Gallery and Tampa Regional Artists. The organization is in need of volunteers and donations for those interested. - Former Hillsborough Schools Superintendent Addison Davis has been hired as an education consultant with Strategos. Davis worked with Hillsborough County from March 2020 until this year when he resigned. The new role will allow Davis to work remotely and spend more time with his family. He did not share when the discussions to switch roles began. (Tampa Patch, WUSF)
- Tampa’s popular Forbici Italian restaurant in Hyde Park Village is expanding across I-275 to St. Petersburg. The new restaurant will be located in the Sundial in downtown St. Petersburg. An opening is planned for sometime in 2024. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
